Solar Inverter and Battery Weatherproof Enclosures

solar inverter and battery weatherproof enclosures help to protect the energy storage of an off-grid solar power system, allowing it to function safely. These cabinets are insulated, thermally regulated, and can have vents to avoid overheating of the batteries inside. Venting also allows gases from the batteries, such as hydrogen, to escape, which is a safety feature. These vents can be passive or active, depending on your specific requirements.

Other features found in these cabinets can include a DC disconnect, spill containment/drain and insulation. A DC disconnect is a circuit breaker that allows you to shut off the batteries quickly, preventing damage from over-voltage. These are a necessary feature for any inverter, and are required by most electrical codes. Spill containment/drain is an important safety feature for lead-acid batteries that are flooded, as they produce hydrogen gas while getting charged. This gas is flammable and should not be released into the atmosphere.

A solar battery box can house multiple blocks of batteries that are connected in series or parallel. Typically, a single enclosure can hold up to 60 small battery blocks. The number of blocks that can fit depends on the size and type of batteries. KDM has a range of enclosures that are waterproof, and have rubber or neoprene gaskets to protect the inside of the cabinet from water, oil and coolant ingress. We also have a range of locks that protect against unauthorized access.

Some enclosures are free-standing and can be placed on casters to make them portable, while others are wall-mounted. Those that are wall-mounted can have a lockable door to prevent theft and are usually secured to the floor with screws or concrete to keep them from being moved.
